Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity Test

Traditional techniques, such as chorionic villus sampling (CVS) and amniocentesis, for prenatal baby gender tests are invasive. They pose a small but significant risk of miscarriage.

As a result of this risk, these invasive testing methods are only offered to women with a high probability of producing children with chromosomal or genetic abnormalities. This means that the vast majority of women do not receive the benefits of invasive prenatal paternity testing.

The discovery of the presence of fetal genetic material in maternal blood has led to the development of non-invasive methods for prenatal diagnosis. It is relatively easy to identify male DNA from fetal cells in maternal blood, which allows for non-invasive diagnosis of X-linked disorders in male fetuses. The fetal cells in a maternal blood sample can also be used to determine the gender of the baby and its paternity.

Advantages of Fetal Cell Analysis from Maternal Blood

Analysis of DNA from fetal cells in maternal blood samples is a non-invasive procedure that poses no risks to the mother or the fetus. The results of a non-invasive prenatal gender test are based on the detection of Y chromosome-specific DNA in maternal blood samples.

This prenatal gender test is relatively inexpensive compared to invasive techniques such as CVS and amniocentesis.

The Testing Process

When to Take the Test

Our non-invasive prenatal paternity test can be conducted when the mother is at least 10 weeks into her pregnancy.

We will provide you with a sample collection kit that will contain blood collection tubes for the mother and swabs for the potential father, as well as instructions and the submission form. A prepaid FedEx courier pouch is included with the kit to send your samples back to our laboratory. We will arrange for your blood collection at a local laboratory or hospital (in Canada and the US only).

Test Accuracy

The accuracy of our prenatal paternity testing results is greater than 99% for maternal blood samples that were collected at least 10 weeks into pregnancy. We strongly recommend testing all potential fathers (no extra charge).

If there is insufficient fetal cell DNA in the maternal blood sample, a second blood sample collection later in the pregnancy is recommended. There is no cost to re-test if the first blood sample was collected at least 10 weeks into the pregnancy.

The testing procedure takes nine business days. We can offer a five-business-day rush service at an additional cost.

The final report will contain one of the following results:

  • The potential father that was tested CANNOT BE EXCLUDED as the biological father of the fetus based on the submitted samples.
  • The potential father that was tested IS EXCLUDED as the biological father of the fetus based on the submitted samples.

Cost for Our Paternity Test

The total cost for our non-invasive prenatal paternity test is $990.00 (US), plus a $70 FedEx shipping fee (for the US only).

The cost includes a sample collection kit an, diagnostic laboratory tests for the mother and potential fathers and final laboratory reports. The total cost includes a free follow-up test after the child is born. We accept VISA, Master Card, American Express or money orders for payment. A deposit of $200.00 (US) is required to initiate the scheduling process, and will be applied towards the total cost. The balance must be paid in full before we can release test results.

Benefits of Doing a Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity Test With Our Laboratory

Free pre-testing consultation

Our consultation includes information about prenatal testing, the types of samples that can be collected from the potential father(s), a recommendation of the best place and time to collect the maternal blood sample and information on how to send sample collection kits to two different locations (one for the mother and second for the potential father).

No extra charge for testing multiple potential fathers

We will test all possible fathers that are involved in your case.

Free baby gender test

It is possible for us to tell you the gender of the fetus, just ask!

Free Follow-Up Test

We provide a free follow-up test for the newborn child. This test can eliminate any uncertainties about the paternity of the child. We offer this test free of charge because we are confident in the accuracy of our prenatal paternity test results.
